How To Learn More About Law Study Abroad

For many university students, there are opportunities to study in foreign countries. If you are in law school and are interested in law study abroad, it is important to understand what counts towards your education and what may not. The American Bar Association, or ABA, is an excellent resource when it comes to learning more about law school and foreign studies. Speaking to an advisor at your university can also be very helpful because they may be able to find a foreign study program that is ideal for your educational and future career goals.

On the website of the American Bar Association, you can see which semester, summer and coop foreign study programs are available for which schools. For example, The University of Akron has only one program, in Geneva Switzerland. However some schools like The University of Baltimore has a variety of programs in places like Scotland, Israel and The Netherlands. So as you can see, the school you are a student of makes a big difference in where you can participate in study abroad.

There are a variety of reasons to study subjects of law in a foreign country. If you plan to go into international law, or want to work with a firm that handles international clients, this kind of study abroad can be very beneficial. Not only does it provide you with valuable education, you learn about other cultures and gain life experience. Both universities and employers look favorably on these types of programs when reviewing an application, resume or curriculum vitae. It shows them that you are someone willing to go beyond what is required to expand your education and experience.

If you would like to learn more information about law study abroad, the American Bar Association has lots of great information. And as previously mentioned, there is more than likely a professional at your school who handles foreign study programs. If you decide to commit to a foreign program, you will need to take care of legalities like insurance, your passport and any required vaccines before you are allowed to travel. In some cases foreign study is a solo pursuit, in others students travel in small groups to the same place. Make sure you are clear on all the details before signing up for an overseas study program.
